Caracalla’s baths are one of the largest spa buildings still visible today. They were built by emperor Caracalla at the beginning of the III secolo AD and they were made to host over 1500 people at a time. The inner rooms, perfectly organized in a symmetrical way, were used as changing rooms and were dedicated to baths in hot, warm and cold water. There were also two gyms, rooms for massage, sauna, waxing and wellness, libraries, rooms for conversation, a large garden and an open air swimming pool. During our tour we’ll discover non only what the Romans were doing here, but also how the complex system of canalizations and furnaces was working, going down to the underground level, where there are also a mill and a small sanctuary dedicated to god Mithra.
